The First Hall
In 1339 nineteen goldsmiths bought a property in Foster Lane for the use of the Goldsmiths' Company. Though extended in area, this is the identical site on which Goldsmiths' Hall stands today, and no other Livery Company can claim a longer or earlier tenure.
The Second Hall
Erected from 1634 to 1636 on the same site as the first hall but enlarged by inclusion of the area formerly occupied by ten shops, the se ond Goldsmiths’ Hall was a handsome Palladian-style building of red brick ornamented with Portland stone.
The Third Hall
In 1829 the second Hall was demolished and construction began on a new structure designed by Philip Hardwick, the Company’s surveyor. It was opened with a grand banquet in July 1835.
